Attic Turbine Not Spinning
A turbine vent is a passive ventilation device.
Attic turbine not spinning. This is a standard turbine vent. All attics get hot no matter what. I ve gone on the roof and white lithium greased both and but a level on them and they are pretty close to level. The popular ridge and soffit ventilation systems and the traditional metal pot vents are also passive ventilation systems.
The presence of wind where the ventilator is installed makes it rotate pumping out hot air from the attic. Climb up into your attic and look at the vents from the inside. I would surmise that you have so much venting that there s not enough force to move your turbines unless external wind does it. Do not install turbine vents if the attic has not been professionally air sealed.
Walking around my soffits yes i do have soffit vents and from the attic i can see sunlight in. Making your attic turbine ventilator run efficiently. If the vents are blocked by insulation boxes or other obstructions heat will not be able to escape through them and they will not spin. 2 of my 3 turbine vents on my roof won t turn unless there s a stronger wind.
Make sure the trees surrounding the house are cut or trimmed so they don t obstruct air flow to the turbine. If air sealing hasn t been performed in the attic they ll pull air into the attic from inside the house and shouldn t be used that bears repeating. The new turbine needs hot air to flow out to turn the impellers. They have fins that open when they turn in the wind and this spinning action creates suction that draws hot humid attic air outside.
You may have to replace the turbine with an electric fan type of ventilator. The hot air is exiting the roof through the louvers at each end of the roof as they were designed to do. A turbine vents spins with the slightest breeze. Just hot air rising out of one will make it spin.
The faster the wind speed the faster the turbine rotates. As soon as it starts to spin it vacuums air out of your attic. Turbine vents are a type of exhaust vent. Clear away any debris or insulation blocking the vents to re activate the spinning turbine.
If the wind is blowing and catches the fins then the turbines act like giant vacuum pumps sucking hundreds of cubic feet of hot air out of an attic per minute. Do i have a low pressure system.
