Attach An Awning Ledger Board To A Wood Siding House
Find the wall studs or roof trusses that will have to support the ledger.
Attach an awning ledger board to a wood siding house. Locate a position for a header or ledger board. Make it the full width of the porch or slightly wider depending on your porch design. Get 4 inches of the flashing under the bottom of the siding. Slip the flashing under the siding so it will cover the ledger board.
A ledger relies on the fasteners and strength of the wood ledger board and rim board of the house to carry the deck live and dead loads. Re check for level and then drill lag screw or bolt pilot holes through the ledger and into the house s framing. Then cut away the siding. Attaching a deck ledger securely is only half the work of installing a ledger. Fasten the ledger board with 1 2 inch bolts and washers. Then use zinc lag screws to secure the ledger board to the house.

Locate all the studs on the exterior wall in the area where the awning will be affixed. The gap between each s should be at least 1 inches. Determine how high it must be to provide an adequate slope to the roof.
Make the outline large enough to include space for the deck boards on top the ledger and any trim boards on the sides. The lags should pass through by at least 1 2 on the back side of the band board.
